Opening of Ballard Walk and Brockagh Trails – Laragh/Glendalough Tidy Towns invite you to the official opening of the Neighbourhood Facilities and Enhancement Project in Ballard on Sunday, June 12, at 2 p.m. This will be followed by the Official Opening of the Brockagh Trails at 3.30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served at 4 p.m.
Junior Tidy Towns – Junior TT cleared Brockagh Trail of rubbish on Sunday, May 17. They collected six sacks of rubbish, working hard to clear the forest. Well done to them for all their hard work. A big thank you to the Wicklow Heather, Glendalough Hotel for providing workers with refreshments over recent weeks and McCoys XL shop for rewarding Junior TT with ice cream after their great work.
Brockagh Market and Car Boot
The Brockagh Market and Car Boot is once a month on the second Sunday (except Jan/Feb) – next date June 12. Open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tea, coffee and food snacks are available. Indoor and outdoor stalls with a variety of items for sale with plenty of bargains from gifts, clothes, plants, books, toys, aloe vera products, artwork, tools, household items etc. Free parking and customer toilet facilities.

Walking group in the Brockagh
On Monday mornings weekly at 10 a.m. join the Laragh walking group at the Brockagh Resource Centre for a walk around the Glendalough area for approximately one hour. No need to book, just show up on the day.
AR meet every Tuesday morning from 10.45 a.m. midday in the Brockagh Centre. If you fancy a chat, a cuppa and some light exercise, dancing and music come along on Tuesdays. We always welcome new members to join our group. The members enjoyed a day trip to Leighlinbridge last Tuesday, a great day was had by all. We have a candle workshop this week for our members.
We would like to encourage anyone who loves arts and crafts or any other hobby, maybe you have learned new skills over the Covid break and would like the space to practice and share your skills with other members if so come along and join us.
Members of the group would like to thank the Local Link bus for bringing them to the centre on a Tuesday morning and also for their Friday shopping bus. They were a lifeline for some members during Covid.

Comedy fundraiser in aid of school
Come along for a fun night out in aid of Schoil Chaoimhín Naofa on Friday, May 27, in Lynhams of Laragh. Doors open at 7.30 p.m. with show starting sharp at 8 p.m. On Stage for the ultimate entertainment will be Danny O’Brien (Comedy Centralm RTÉ), Paul Marsh (winner of Ireland’s Funniest joke) and music by the Flamin Mongrels. Wicklow County Council are advising that roadworks will be taking place on the R756 (Glendalough to Laragh) and the R755 (Laragh to Annamoe) between Monday, May 16, and Wednesday, May 25.
Traffic management and a stop/go system will be in place with road users likely to experience delays. Please use alternative routes if possible.
The works are necessary to carry out road resurfacing works. Wicklow County Council regrets any inconvenience caused.
Archbishop Dermot Farrell will launch the celebrations with Mass this Sunday at 10.30 a.m. in St Kevin’s Church, Laragh. On Friday, June 3, there will be a concert in St Kevin’s at 8 p.m.
All are welcome to visit the Hermitages at the open days on Saturday, June 4, and Sunday, June 5, from 11 a.m. till 5 p.m. each day. Pilgrim Walks have been arranged for Saturday, June 4, A ritual with Deirdre Ni Chinneide will take place in the meditation garden at St Kevin’s on Saturday, June 4, and Sunday, June 5, from 2.30 p.m. till 3.30 p.m.

Rathdrum Tidy Towns are having a community clean-up on Monday, May 30 at 6.30 p.m. meeting in the market square This is a great way for people to get involved in the community while also keeping the town clean and tidy. All help is great;y appreciated the sixth WWW Rathdrum scouts are joining us on the night they have always taken part in these clean-up down through the years and we are delighted to welcome them back refreshments will be provided on the night which is sponsored by Robert Casey.

Rathdrum, who were on the junior county camogie panel that played in the junior county camogie final last weekend. Wicklow won and were crowned leinster junior camogie champions 2022 so well done to you Emma and Thea and all your teammates. Also on the day the Avondale under-10 camogie team played in the mini games at half time in the leinster camogie finals.

Rathdrum Historical Society has organised a walk around Wicklow town based on the Robert Halpin trail on Monday, May 30, at 6.30 p.m. Anyone wishing to attend should meet at Parnell Park Rathdrum at 6 p.m. we can travel from there to Wicklow.
Caitlin Byrne from Rathdrum is one of a number of women entering the Wicklow Rose Selection 2022 this year If crowned the Wicklow Rose 2022 she will be going to Tralee for the International Rose of Tralee Festival.
The Wicklow Rose selection will take place on June 5 in the Arklow Bay Hotel. The doors will be opened at 6.15 p.m. and the show will begin at 7 p.m.

St Colman’s Residential Centre
This year St Colman’s Residential Centre is holding a fun run walk to fundraise for completion of the 12 Sheltered Houses refurbishment. Stage one is now successfully completed with beautiful new PVC windows and doors. This is down to the generosity of all who supported last year’s’ event – the Walk to Vancouver. The next phase is to fit the new showers, new vanity units, tile and redecorate.
This year’s event will take place over the week Monday, June 27, to Sunday, July 3, culminating in a barbecue on Sunday, July 3, from 2 p.m. on site, post run, walk or stroll when medals shall be presented. The target is set at 1,000km per house, that is a staggering 12,000km.
Walk sponsorship cards are available from St Colman’s Residential Centre, Avondale Sports and staff connected to St Colman’s. The Patient’s Benefit Fund are supporting this effort and have been active in achieving progress so far.
Thank you to all who continue to support St/Colman’s and improvements to the lives of those who reside in it.
Bingo continues on Friday nights at 8.30 p.m. at the RDA Hall Next Friday sees the return of the ‘jackpot’ Sheet – a firm favourite among bingo players. Although the jackpot prize won’t be as big as pre-Covid it is still worth a punt and in time it is hoped to reinstate the prize money. For those that don’t know the bingo is presented every Friday night by a very small group of volunteers and there is always the need for extra help, so if anyone is interested in helping out in any way it would be most appreciated.
The RDA Hall is in constant demand so if anyone is looking to book it please try give as much notice as possible as it is very busy.
