CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Some weeks my brain is like a card dealer in Vegas - smooth, fast, capable. Last week, my brain was more like an old wagon wheel, all wobbly and stuck in the mud. It was my fault - I think.

For two days I read about microplastics. For half a week, I pondered microplastics. For four nights, I worried about microplastics. And on the fifth day, I listed all the ways my household could further reduce our acquisition of plastics, including those plastic bags from stores that I thought were outlawed. Wait! Since January 16 they have been banned in Cuyahoga County but five cities have opted out. Cleveland, I’m looking at you.
