While every restaurant received a passing grade in the latest Laredo health inspections, many were cited for having multiple violations. 

Past inspections from the Laredo Health Department have led to restaurant violations such as flies being found in the food preparation area and expired milk being sold. While many restaurants inspected over the last few months have received at least one violation, all restaurants inspected by the health department received a passing score.

The same is true for the latest health inspections performed between the beginning of May and the beginning of June in Laredo. Here are all the health inspections performed by the Laredo Health Department during that period. This list does not include stores with limited food preparation or establishments selling only pre-packaged items. 

H-E-B 2310 Saunders St.  Score: 99/100 Inspector’s notes: Vent in the meat market was leaking and found rust and dirt accumulation.

China Express (South) 2216 Guadalupe St. Score: 78/100 Inspector’s notes: The hot hold foot area in the establishment was at less than 115 F. Raw chicken was being stored on top of ready-to-eat foods. Sticky fly traps were hanging in the food preparation area. The establishment does not have an employee on duty that is the designated "person in charge." Temperature logs are not updated daily. Food in the refrigerator is not dated properly and not covered.

Powder soap is being used for dishwashing instead of approved liquid antibacterial soap. Observed worker drinking beverage in the food preparation area. Wiping cloths not properly stored in sanitizing solution. Ice scoop not stored properly. Knives were stored in the gap between the sink and the wall. The freezer had an accumulation of dirt and dust.

Safari Restaurant 2520 E. Travis St. Score: 86/100 Inspector’s notes: Raw meat stored next to cooked items. No evidence of all employees completing an accredited food handlers training course. Temperature logs are not updated daily. Food in the refrigerator is not covered or dated correctly. The ice machine had accumulated debris. Observed multiple food handlers with jewelry and wearing hair restraints incorrectly. Refrigerators had an accumulation of dirt. Multiple holes were found in the ceiling of the establishment.

Wendy’s 1520 Saunders St.  Score: 97/100 Inspector’s notes: Observed food handler not wearing hair restraint and wearing jewelry. The light under the hood is missing the cover. Urinal overflowing. Restrooms closed until further notice. Plumbers were already on site.

Yzaguirre and Son Grocery 2901 Chacota St. Score: 93/100 Inspector’s notes: Toxic items not properly stored. It is recommended that the thermometer in the chicken area be repaired or replaced. Butchers had drinks and ate bread in the preparation area. Observed full container of trash in the kitchen area without a lid.

Kentucky Fried Chicken 2319 Guadalupe St. Score: 96/100 Inspector’s: Soda machine and air vent not cleaned properly. Utensils are not stored properly. The compartment of the grill/oven had burnt residues that needed to be cleaned. Roof tiles above the ice machine area and dining area are damaged and need replacement.
